PADI Wreck Diver Specialty Course
 
This course is designed to be an introduction to wreck diving and to help the student develop the skills and knowledge necessary for safe wreck diving.

Academic Sessions will include:
1. Planning, organization, procedures, techniques, identifying potential hazards of wreck diving, and problem prevention.
2. The preparation and use of lights, air supplies, special equipment, penetration lines, and reels.
3. Limited-visibility diving techniques and emergency procedures.
4. Deep Diving - N2 narcosis, O2 toxicity, decompression sickness, safety stops, and required decompression stops.
5. Assessing the wreck. 
6. Penetration techniques - permanent lines, wreck reels, and progressive penetration. 
7. Equipment requirements, configurations, and management. 
8. Buoyancy skills and control - anti-silting techniques. 
9. Line use - permanent lines and reels. 
10. Wreck navigation techniques. 
11. Mapping wrecks.
12. Air loss - redundancy and alternate air source.
13. Emergency ascent procedures - free ascents and emergency ascent lines. 

Open Water Dives: Four wreck dives over a three-day period is required to receive a PADI certification. In this course, you will be acquainted with various wrecks in Key Largo. Wrecks include the Duane, Benwood, and Spiegel Grove.  Dive One will consist of an outside tour of the Duane. Dive Two will consist of line and lift bag use on the wreck of the Benwood.  Dives Three and Four will consist of mapping and possible penetration of the wreck of the Spiegel Grove. 

Required Equipment: Wreck diving is an equipment intensive activity. It is important to have the proper equipment for the type of wreck diving that you will be doing. You will need the following equipment: Standard Equipment:  mask, fins, snorkel, wet
suit and suit accessories, BCD regulator with alternate air source, pressure gauge, computer, and compass. Weight belt can be integrated into BCD or standard weight belt with two buckles for safety.
2 Tanks per day:  Minimum 100 cu.ft. recommended (Nitrox highly recommended) singles or bring your own doubles.  Singles must also have a 30 cu.ft. pony bottle (Can be rented from Ocean Divers. Ocean Divers does not rent double tanks).
Lights: Minimum one primary and one backup light (recommend two backup lights)
Knives: Two knives, one on the leg and one on the BCD.
One wreck reel
Accessories: One slate for mapping, jon-line for safety stops, whistle, and safety sausage.

Prerequisites: Advanced Open Water, 15 years of age or older.

Nitrox Certification is highly  recommended but not required.

Class Size: Limited 6 students
