Learn to Scuba Dive

In 3 Easy Steps!

 1. PADI eLearning Online Program

 2. One Class Orientation & Three Pool Sessions

 3. Four Open Water Dives

PADI Open Water Course: The PADI Open Water Course is the first level of certification required for recreational diving.  The new PADI online scuba course makes learning scuba diving fun and easy. Now you can do all the classroom work in the privacy of your own home and at your own pace. Once you have completed your online training you will need to attend one orientation night at our facility along with three pool sessions. See schedule below for dates and times. Class size is limited; please register for your pool sessions early. To finish your certification you will also need to complete four open water training dives. Since PADI is an international organization, you can complete your dives with us in the Cape Ann area in one weekend or you can take a referral and complete your training during your warm water vacation.

Getting Started: To get started, scroll down the page until you see the PADI eLearning icon. Click to the right of the icon. Follow the simple instructions and you are on your way to becoming a scuba diver! So we can assist you with your training, make sure you choose MASS Diving as your dive center. Once you get started we will be contacting and assisting you throughout the program. After completing the online course, you will be able to print out a student course completion referral to be handed into us during your Orientation night.

Student Kits: Each student will need to purchase a supplemental student kit at our dive center. The kit contains a student record folder, dive tables, and your log book.

Orientation Night: During the orientation night we will have introductions, go over and collect the student folders, give a store tour and equipment overview, talk about MASS Diving Dive Programs and other avenues for you to dive, and view an underwater slide show entitled “The Underwater World Through a Diver’s Eye”.

Skill Development in Confined Water Sessions: During pool sessions, the instructor will brief the students on diving skills, demonstrate the skills underwater and evaluate students as they perform each skill. Students will have ample time for skill development.

Pool Equipment: The class and pool fees include use of all scuba equipment except for mask, snorkel, fins, boots, and gloves.  MASS Diving will provide tanks, regulators, buoyancy compensators, weight belts, and exposure suits. If students already own equipment, we encourage them to use their own equipment during the class.

Four Open Water Training Evaluation Dives: Four open water dives are required for a PADI Open Water Diver certification. Our program consists of four shore dives conducted on a Saturday and Sunday. On each dive the students will demonstrate the skills learned in the confined open water sessions followed by an exciting tour. Two dives will be conducted per day at a minimum depth of 20 feet for a minimum time of 20 minutes per dive. Maximum depth will not exceed 40 feet and bottom time will depend on the students’ air consumption. The certification dives will be conducted in the Gloucester and Rockport area.  Please visit our website for open water weekend dates and information.

Open Water Scuba Equipment: Students have the option of purchasing or renting their equipment for the open water dives. Students can rent all of their equipment (except mask, snorkel, fins, boots, and gloves) at a 15% discount off our regular rental rate.

Referral Package:  Students not completing their open water training with MASS Diving will need a referral package.  This package will consist of a student academic and confined water completion form, medical form, student photograph, and certification card processing form (PIC).  We can assist you in setting up your open water training dives at your travel destination if needed.

Pool Participation Registration required at MASS Diving: Once you begin our online program you must register early for your pool training. The online program must be fully completed before you can attend our pool sessions. Students are required to fill out their student record folder during registration.  If a student answers yes to any medical questions, he/she must get approval from his/her doctor before beginning our program. Doctors must fill out the PADI Medical Form available at MASS Diving or on the instruction section of our website.

eLearning Registration: See below to register for our eLearning course online. Then you will need to pick a date to complete your pool training. See below for dates. You can register over the phone at (508) 651-0698, on our website at www.massdiving.com, or stop by our facility.
