Advanced Open Water
Diver
In your Open Water course you learned the basic skills to become
a scuba diver. The PADI Advanced Open Water Diver Program builds upon the skills you
learned in your Open Water Course and allows you to increase your comfort and
enjoyment levels under the guidance of a PADI professional. This course is

The first day consists of three dives - 2

water. On dive two, students will learn both natural and compass
navigation. Dive three will be a night dive from the shore. On day two, dives
four and five will be conducted from a boat. Students will have the opportunity

Assistant
Instructor Development Course
The PADI Assistant Instructor program provides PADI
Divemasters, and those certified to leadership levels with other diver training organizations, with additional training
as instructional assistants and dive educators. If you meet the above criteria then this program will builds upon
your abilities to organize and supervise dive activities, while concentrating on developing
teaching skills. Through independent study, classroom sessions and practical application,
candidates learn to construct effective teaching presentations and conduct PADI programs. To
help you through the program, PADI has developed an array of learning tools such as the PADI
Assistant Instructor Workbook. The PADI Assistant Instructor Course is also the
first half of the Instructor Development Course.
To qualify for PADI Assistant Instructor training, you'll need to:
1. Be certified as a PADI Divemaster or leadership level with another recreational diver training
organization.
2. Be at least 18 years old.
3. Be in good physical condition for diving and submit a medical exam form signed by a
physician.
4. Have completed and logged at least 60 open water dives with experience in night, deep and
navigation.
The PADI Assistant Instructor program consists of:
1. Formal training in conducting PADI programs and experience programs.
2. Independent study assignments.
3. Practical application sessions.
4. Written examination.
As a PADI Assistant Instructor, you'll be able to:
1. Act as an instructional assistant.
2. Assume limited teaching responsibilities.
Upon successfully completing the PADI Assistant Instructor program, you receive a certification
card and wall certificate denoting this rating. You’ll also become a member of PADI and receive
benefits, including the ability to purchase professional liability insurance (which may be required
to conduct some activities).
Materials: Same as instructor course below.
Cost: $650.00

Instructor Development Course
PADI, the world's largest diver training organization with over
50,000 active members, offers the finest instructor training programs available anywhere.
Our PADI IDC program provides a professional learning experience in which you will learn
how to teach diving utilizing the most successful program in existence: the PADI system of
diver education. Not only will you learn how to teach in the classroom, pool, and open
water environments; you will also learn how to effectively use PADI's teaching aids and
instructional support materials. When you complete our PADI IDC, you will have been
trained and prepared to attend a PADI Instructor Examination (IE), the final step toward
your PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor Certification. Additionally, our course is conducted
in a positive, low stress environment, and our staff is among the best trained in the
industry to assure the best learning experience for you.
Revised in 2001,
the PADI IDC offers many advantages to the professional seeking to
attain their Assistant Instructor or Instructor ratings. The new scheduling criteria will allow you to
complete the PADI Assistant Instructor course during the first three days of the
IDC. Or you
may continue and complete the entire IDC and qualify for the IE.
There are several advantages to the new format; 1) its easier to complete the AI course, 2) you
get a feel for the IDC format and curriculum, 3) the AI portion counts toward the IDC so you
don't have to go through it twice, 4) if you complete the AI portion, the IDC portion is only four
more days, 5) you have plenty of opportunity to teach the academics, pool and open water
sessions prior to an IE. Materials required for the AI course are the same materials
required for the IDC (you don't have to purchase more books).
During the IDC you will complete the 800 yard mask, fins, snorkel swim (not part of the IE
anymore), you will satisfactorily complete written exams prior to the IE and you will be taught
how to conduct prescriptive teaching sessions.
The IE has changed slightly. There are five skills to demo in the pool and you must have a
minimum score of 17 on the skills. You have one pool skill to teach, one academic, and two
open water skills. The rescue evaluation is conducted during the open water session. The
exciting news is that if you are unsuccessful in no more than two of the categories of
evaluation, you may attend a second IE and retest in only those areas.
This course will be offered in a
weekend format with weeknights available for additional training if necessary. The ocean dives will be conducted over a one-weekend period.
The following list of material are REQUIRED for the IDC:
